An ambitious project aims to resurrect ancient vineyards below the Temple of Juno, enhancing local productions of food and wine excellences.

Good agricultural practices can safeguard landscape and the identity of one of the most enchanting archaeological areas of Mediterranean: The Valley of the Temples of Agrigento. The heart of the new project Diodoros ,  realised in cooperation with the productive structures of the territory with the aim of recovering cultivations of more than 400 hectares which 120 have been granted to private sector.

At the beginning of 2014, other hectares will be granted for social and productive purposes thanks to “Agri-gentium” project. The heart of this ambitious plan is a wine line branded Diodoros that will re-launch the productive image of the historical vine of  The Valley of the Temples located below the Temple of Juno. This vine have been planted over the time hosting different indigenous varietals such as Nero d’Avola, Inzolia, Catarratto.

The project is result of an agreement between the Authority of the Park and CVA Canicattì wine cellar. The agreement was signed in 2011, the first step of a project which involves SMEs of the land with the purpose of resurrecting other agricultural local productions such as pistachios, almonds, olive trees, vineyards and crops, once considered “precious gardens”.

Tomorrow, Diodoros will be presented to the public. The brand belongs to Archaeological Park of Agrigento while winemaking is up to CVA Canicattì wine cellar engaged in buying the grapes of these ancient vineyards for the next 9 years. Moreover the production aging  will be carried out with the cooperation of other historical structures like Taccia-Caci mine, in Aragona ( the structure was a gift of the Prince of Aragona to Don Stefano Pirandello, Luigi Pirandello’s father).

Diodoros label will join other active productions in the Park, such as the olive ad almond ones that has generated “Mille Mandorli” project aiming to plant 1000 almonds trees in an area affected by a fire.
